Alec Baldwin wants to be the tooth fairy - at least in a charitable capacity. The star of The Juror and The Edge has asked parents in the states of New York and New Jersey to donate their kid's chompers to medical science. Baldwin signed off 15,000 letters that began mailing out on Monday as part of a study of Americans' exposure to radioactivity. Researchers at the Radiation and Public Health Project want to examine levels of radiation in the teeth to find out whether or not the food the babies mothers ate during their pregnancy was contaminated. Baldwin's involvement with the project undoubtedly comes as a result of his mother, Carol Baldwin, who survived breast cancer. In each of the 15,000 letters, Baldwin wrote, "I am writing you as someone personally concerned that our high cancer rates may be influenced by radioactive reactor emissions in the greater New York metropolitan area. We only need one or two of the baby teeth that your children lose between the ages of five and twelve." Dr. Jay Gould, the project's director said his group hoped to analyse 1,000 teeth by the end of the year.
