Just when he thought he was out… They wanna pull him back in. Robert De Niro is considering a return to Mafia movies.
He’s attached to star in an adaptation of an unpublished novel called The Winter Of Frankie Machine, written by Don Winslow. The film would see De Niro as a Mafia hit man who’s given up the mob life to run a bait shop. But when he learns he’s the target of a hit himself, he grabs his guns once more.
"He did say that he wouldn't play a Mafia character," De Niro’s producing partner Jane Rosenthal told Variety. "But along came Don Winslow, who created a perfect character. The lesson here is, never say never."
