Austin’s Shag – No way Baby

British Cinemas threaten censorship

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is in danger of losing his shag. A British cinema chain, ABC cinemas, has said it will ban the word from the company’s premises – which effectively means changing the title of the film and bleeping the word out of the film, Jerry Springer-style. The film has already been in trouble in Singapore, where censors had decided to change the title to Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shoiked Me, which roughly translated means Austin Powers: The Spy Who Was Nice and Gentle To Me. Oh behave. Luckily, the Singaporean censors quickly relented and restored the original title. Back in Blighty this morning, the chief executive of ABC was unavailable for comment. The fate of Austin’s Shag? At the moment it looks as though we may be inflicted with a meaningless substitute title a la Singapore– and Austin really will have lost his mojo.
