Amy Adams Joins The Dear Evan Hansen Film

The casting for the film adaptation of award-winning stage musical Dear Evan Hansen is motoring along, with several of its younger ensemble already in place. Amy Adams is joining them.

Ben Platt, who originated the title role on stage and will lead the film about Hansen, a high schooler with social anxiety who writes letters to try to help himself. He unintentionally gets caught up in a lie after the family of Connor (Colton Ryan), a classmate who committed suicide mistakes one of Hansen’s letters for their son’s suicide note.

Kaitlyn Dever is on to play Zoe, Connor's sister, with Amandla Stenberg as Alana Beck, Danny Pino as Larry Murphy and Nik Dodani as Jared Kleinman. Adams will be Cynthia Murphy, mother to Connor, Zoe and Larry.

Wonder's Stephen Chbosky is preparing to direct the film, working from Steven Levenson's script, while Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who provided the music for the musical, are on to write more for the adaptation.
