Carrying on the current trend for bringing computer games to life, Dimension Films is the latest to step on the pixellated bandwagon, having acquired big screen rights to the popular Alone In The Dark series. Riding the wave that saw Tomb Raider and the upcoming Resident Evil get the green light, Alone In The Dark will take a stab at live action, taking its plot from the most recent in the computer game series. The story follows the exploits of supernatural investigator Edward Carnby. Investigating the death of a close friend, he picks up the trail of some missing ancient tablets and, along with anthropology professor Aline Cedrac, follows the leads to Shadow Island, a hellish place where the pair are beset by all manner of demonic shadow creatures. By and large, the transition from console to cinema is far from a sure route to success; one only needs cast an eye back to 1993's Super Mario Bros - shudder - for evidence of that. However, Alone In The Dark's 2 million-plus sales record on the game market should at least ensure that there's a solid fan base to start the ball rolling.
