American audiences were clearly not tired of travelling to **Wonderland **this weekend, as Tim Burton’s take on Alice’s adventures scored a healthy second weekend, with $62 million, pushing it past $208 million in the US alone.
But despite a creative team that included Bourne regulars Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass, Iraq war thriller Green Zone couldn’t conquer the problems that most movies focused on the conflict have faced – low turnout. While the film’s $14.5 million take is better than most recent war efforts, it doesn’t look like it’ll be in the profitability zone any time soon given a reported $100 million budget.
The week’s other wide releases were spread further down the chart, with raunchy rom com She’s Out Of My League drawing $9.6 million for third, Robert Pattinson’s latest stab at non-Twilight stardom, Remember Me in fourth with $8.2 million and Our Family Wedding down in sixth, making $7.6 million.
The Top five, meanwhile, was rounded out by Shutter Island, which continues to perform well. Scorsese’s latest is up to $108 million.
