Bruce Willis is threatening to turn his back on the action movies that first propelled him into the Hollywood stratosphere. Speaking at a press conference for his latest movie Breakfast of Champions at the Toronto Film Festival the actor explained how he wanted to break away from the gung-ho action man mould. ‘Working with Alan Rudolph [director of Breakfast of Champions] released me from having to be a movie star…The studios want me running in the streets with a gun shouting “Don’t do that!” This movie lets me be an actor again.” In Breakfast of Champions Willis plays a small town car dealer on the brink of a nervous breakdown. An impressive cast also includes Nick Nolte, Barbara Hershey and Albert Finney. Bruce’s latest outburst is a repeat performance of his comments made after Armageddon came out in which he said he was sick of ‘saving the world’. As for the Die Hard series, there’s been a lot of gossip but no hard news about whether Bruce will sign on the dotted line for a fourth movie. Perhaps the success of Sixth Sense, in which Willis plays against type as a child psychologist, will prove the encouragement he needs to make the break from John McClane.
