The 2008 Oscar Nominations Are In

by Olly Richards |

The 2008 Oscar nominations have been announced in LA and, as expected, the nods have been spread among a wide field. It’s incredibly surprising to see Michael Clayton leading the pack in the big categories. Mainly because it was just good, but not great, like some of the others in the running. However, No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood have the most nominations overall with eight apiece. Big surprises? Saoirse Ronan for Atonement (well deserved). Hal Holbrook for Into The Wild (ditto). No Keira Knightley for Atonement (surprising). A virtual shut out for The Assasination of Jesse James (BOOOOO!). A Best Actor nod for Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises. Plus, unspeakably, Norbit received a nomination (the end is nigh).********
