Though it appeared to wrap the story up satisfactorily, there were enough dangling plot threads and fuel left in the time-looping plot to potentially power a Happy Death Day sequel. And the Blumhouse team are pushing ahead, with cast members Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard returning to star.

Christopher Landon, who worked on the script and directed the first film is also back, for a story that is largely under wraps, but that will answer more questions about the murderous time loop that seemingly trapped college student Tree Gelbman (Rothe) until she figured out how to escape it. According to the actor, the story will pick up exactly where the first one left off, and given the timey-wimey nature of the tale, expect possible looks at the first film's story from a different perspective.

Suraj Sharma will play Samar Ghosh, a science enthusiast with a yen for coding, who will no doubt find the concept fascinating. And he's joined by Sarah Yarkin as Dre Morgan, a fellow geek and tomboy. Landon will start the cameras rolling again on 10 May. It's perhaps not a surprise that Happy Death Day would earn a sequel – after all, it brought in more than $122 million worldwide on a budget of less than $5 million...
