Our team is full of passionate experts who always seek to deliver in-depth product reviews. Here, we'll explain our review process, including how we test and rate products.
Why should you trust us?
We're dedicated to ensuring that our reviews are accurate and detailed. We're constantly researching a range of relevant and prevalent tech products so that we're always up to date with any shifts in the market, and in turn, we hope to keep you updated as well.
We consider anything less than complete honesty a disservice to our readers and our reputation as a trustworthy source of unbiased, accurate product information.
Our writing team has plenty of experience testing and writing about technology, and they use that expertise in all of our articles, reviews, and advice pieces. They have complete control over their articles and choose products that they believe best match the needs of our readers.
We do not accept payment for product reviews. Though we may receive a commission or other compensation from the links on this website, we never allow this to influence product selections. These links allow us to keep doing what we love: creating meaningful and valuable consumer product advice. We never allow potential compensation to influence our reviews.
How do we test products?
The testing process differs from product to product, but we always incorporate it into our daily lives. We don't rush things – we want to simulate what it's like to own the product as if we were a regular consumer, and so it's not uncommon for our testing period to last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month. Tech products are often expensive, so we want to have a deep understanding of all their strengths, weaknesses, and unique aspects.
Explaining our scoring system
When we review a product, we give it a score out of five. While this score is partially reflective of individual ratings that differ from product to product, our final scores always adhere to the following:
1 - Terrible. Most, if not all, of the core elements and features fail, and thus the product is best avoided. In the event that we do come across something this bad, we have another team member test it as well to be sure that we haven't missed anything.
2 Poor. Underwhelming, with basic elements being sub-par or even missing. Better options exist elsewhere, so we do not recommend a product of this rating.
3 - Good. This is a recommendation. It does what it needs to do satisfactorily, but is not overly impressive.
4 - Great. Above average, with aspects that go well above the standard. These are products that are worth your money.
5 - Excellent. Fantastic and nigh-flawless, stands apart from and above similar products on the market. The closest thing we can find to a must-buy recommendation.
What do we include in our reviews?
Our writers get hands-on experience with the product, so it's up to them to decide what to discuss, including anything worth praising or criticizing. We avoid overly wordy jargon and prefer to present our thoughts and findings in an approachable format.
For most products, we will always discuss the technical performance of it, as well as what it's like to actually use it. This way, we can distinguish the potential of the product from what it's like to use consistently. We also tend to discuss the physical build of the product, such as buttons, materials, and durability.
To give our readers the best set of information possible, we look at the price and competition of the product, analysing how it holds up to relevant peers in its field. Following that, we include a few alternative product recommendations, so even if the main product isn't the right one for our readers, they will leave more informed.
How do we get our hands on products to review?
In most cases, products come to us from PR or brands themselves. They may reach out to us, or we may ask them for any available samples. Regardless, our review process remains the same. Our experts remain honest in their reviews and will include praise when deserved and criticism when necessary. We do not shy away from discussing any faults a product may have, as we seek to give our readers a true understanding of the product through our experience.
