The Nintendo Switch 2 has been released, with fans queuing up at shops across the world for midnight openings. Since Nintendo lifted the lid last month, securing a console ahead of the launch has felt like chasing a blue shell: blink and it's gone. With demand sky-high for the sequel to one of the best-selling consoles ever made, the rollout was less of a smooth launch and more of a scramble, with surprise drops, sudden sell-outs, and plenty of players left staring at the dreaded "Out of stock" screen. Now with the Switch 2 officially on the market, has that changed?
Amazon is currently stocking the Switch 2 by itself and the Mario Kart World version.
When in stock, My Nintendo Store has units for Switch Online members. If you're not already a member then you can subscribe in order to buy. A code will be delivered to you digitally, with Amazon and CDKeys both offering a discount on the 12 Months Family membership subscription.
Very is another retailer which has routinely offered an interesting selection of bundled options, as has Currys and The Game Collection. Meanwhile, ShopTo has been listing the console on a 'back order' basis.

Base consoles have sometimes been a blink-and-you'll-miss-it affair. The initial pre-order rollout saw a kind of golden-ticket entry system for users with an active 12-month Switch Online membership and at least 50 hours of gameplay logged before 2 April. That's since expanded to a broader offer for Online members on the official site.
We're tracking it all in real time – every drop, bundle, and restock – so if you're chasing a console, this is the page to watch. Best to bookmark and check back regularly. Is the Switch 2 on sale in the US?
While most US retailers were just as cryptic as the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order UK stockists, some buyers have spotted listings on Walmart and Amazon US. These links may flicker in and out of stock, but it's worth checking.
The Switch 2: Our Initial Impressions
The Switch 2 is a leap in the right direction from its predecessor. Out of the box, it feels like a more premium bit of kit. If the original Switch was a fantastic toy, this is its grown-up sibling.
The magnetic Joy-Cons are sturdier and are now at a size where they don't feel tiny in our hands, while the buttons feel more tactile (and satisfying). Elsewhere, the unit has more weight to it, and the screen is bigger and noticeably brighter and clearer. Perhaps most impressive though are the colours. They pop! We were unsure of how the screen would perform when we first heard about the specs, but it's impressed us in practice. The original Switch felt behind its peers in terms of power, but even in handheld mode the Switch 2 surprises with its screen clarity and quality. The only slight downside? Battery life. We'll keep testing, but for now, that's the one area where it might fall short.
We picked up the Mario Kart bundle, which includes a download code. It took about twenty minutes to install, and once loaded, the visuals were excellent. The tracks are vibrant, and the graphics look sharper too. The new animations for drifting, crashing, and reacting to nearby players add to this experience.
Best of all, while this is a new console, the layout and navigation are much the same as the first Switch. We were instantly familiar with where everything should be, so we could get straight to setting it up how we like it. This was made even easier by the simple data transfer that lets you take your Switch's details and accounts and put them straight onto the Switch 2.

In the meantime…
While we wait, fingers hovering over baskets, eyes locked on Lakitu's green light, it's the perfect time to catch up on everything the Nintendo Switch 2 will deliver.
What's new with the Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo's next-gen hybrid console is shaping to be more than a safe sequel. Building on the DNA of the original 2017 model, the Switch 2 ups the ante across the board, with the headline upgrade being the screen: a bigger, brighter 7.9-inch handheld display (up from 6.2) now equipped with 1080p resolution and HDR support. In docked mode, the console can push up to 4K and hit 120Hz on supported displays. To get the most out of your Switch, head to our Best TVs guide.
Under the hood, a hefty 256GB of storage offers plenty of room, far more than the meagre three-to-four-game limit of the 32GB launch model or 64GB OLED. Physically, it's bigger and heavier, with a sleeker profile, added USB-C port and more ergonomic Joy-Cons.

When was the Switch 2 released?
The Switch 2 was released worldwide on 5 June 2025.
How much does the Switch 2 cost?
In the UK, the Nintendo Switch 2 is on sale for £359.99, or as a Mario Kart World bundle for £429.99.
Does the Nintendo Switch 2 support 4K?
Yes, on supported displays. However, both the TV and game must be compatible with 4K resolution, and frame rate is fixed to a maximum of 60 FPS for 4K output.
What does it mean for the original Nintendo Switch?
The original Nintendo Switch is still available to purchase – and maybe at a discount now that the Switch 2 is stealing the limelight. The full-size Switch can be handheld or connected to a TV, and the same goes for the OLED model. The Switch Lite lacks this functionality, but is therefore often cheaper. Here are the best deals we can currently find on new, original versions of the Nintendo Switch:
Nintendo Switch – £243 from Amazon
Nintendo Switch OLED – £210 from OnBuy
Nintendo Switch Lite – £176 from Amazon
For more significant discounts, refurbished versions are readily available from sites like Back Market.
Why were Switch 2 GAME pre-orders cancelled?
GAME customer services are yet to offer an explanation as to why those who thought they had secured the console have had their pre-orders cancelled. An apology was offered as part of a social media post and those affected were advised that GAME would be in touch with further updates when these are available.
What games are available on the Switch 2?
Backwards compatibility is confirmed – last year's best games and your old favourites will run just fine – but Nintendo's giving the Switch 2 its own wave of upgraded titles and, in some cases, exclusives to show off what the new hardware can do.
Some games are getting a visual and performance boost in their "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" re-releases, including Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4. Other titles, like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, are skipping the old hardware and launching exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Here's the confirmed Switch 2 launch day line-up:
• Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer
• Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster
• Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition
• Deltarune
• Fast Fusion
• Fortnite
• Hitman World of Assassination – Signature Edition
• Hogwarts Legacy
• Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
• Mario Kart World
• Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
• Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition
• Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S
• Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma
• Sid Meier's Civilization 7 (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition)
• Split Fiction
• Street Fighter 6
• Survival Kids
• The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition)
• The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition)
• Yakuza 0 Director's Cut
Among the line-up, two titles in particular are already shaping up to be early essentials.
Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World is Nintendo's first open-world racer and the standout Switch 2 launch title. Expect sprawling maps, wild weather zones, and local and online multiplayer. It's available solo or in the official bundle. Skip it, and may Kamek curse your new console with eternal stick drift. Your move.
Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong returns with Bananza, his first full 3D adventure since the N64. You'll smash through mines, ruins, and jungle chaos while facing VoidCo, a villainous tech cult. With the level design aesthetic of Mario Odyssey, it launches 17 July as the Switch 2's first major post-launch title. Bananas may contain lore.
Post-launch, Donkey Kong Bananza will swing into view on 17th July. Looking further ahead, Kirby Air Riders and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment are locked in for 2025, while FromSoftware's new title, The Duskbloods, is expected to arrive sometime in 2026.

What accessories are available for the Switch 2?
There are a few Nintendo Switch 2 accessories available to order: the Joy-Con 2 Wheel Pair for more immersive racing, the comfort-focused Pro Controller with mappable buttons and a GameChat feature, a tough Carry Case with a screen protector and space for accessories, and the new Switch 2 Camera for face-to-face co-op chaos.
Hoping to narrow things down? These are the two we'd call essential:

store.nintendo.co.uk
Designed for travel, this case includes a screen protector, cleaning cloth, space for six games, and slots for your Joy-Con 2 straps. If you need more room, the All-In-One Carrying Case fits the full TV setup – dock, console, cables, and all. Like a suitcase, but for Mario.

www.very.co.uk
The Pro Controller offers HD Rumble 2, motion controls, mappable buttons, and a GameChat shortcut for more traditional, comfortable pad play. Ideal for longer sessions, Smash Bros. button-smashing, and anyone used to PlayStation or Xbox controllers.
That said, when it comes to the Carry Case, it's worth considering third-party options, especially if you're not attached to the Nintendo logo. Many offer more storage, better protection, or a slimmer design, often for less. Just make sure it's Switch 2 compatible.
