It's a Stone-cold classic

This cult sci-fi drama boasts Kathryn Bigelow and Phil Joanou among its five directors and was produced by Oliver Stone - a pretty impressive pedigree for any mini-series. But with a dark conspiracy theme hinged around a Scientology-like religion and a scheme by big business to literally buy the hearts and minds of America, this is an effectively compelling mix of film noir stylings and Philip K. Dickian near-future dystopia. Our corporate lawyer hero (eh?) Harry Wyckoff (James Belushi) experiences a recurring nightmare about a rhino in a swimming pool, which is somehow connected to a controversial US senator. Made in the early ’90s, the show’s look hasn’t aged brilliantly, but its blend of surreal, complex twistings means that it still stands up.
