Though it’s impossible for Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat’s sleuth update to live up to its “best telly ever!” reviews, even die-hard Conan Doyle traditionalists will get a kick out of the second series — a funnier, sillier, more confident follow-up to the much-loved first season. The show’s continued success will rely on it ignoring its own ever-expanding hype — no mean feat.
