“There’s nothing wrong with being silly,” Terry Jones once dispensed. Yet writer Tony Roche proves him wrong with this account of the Pythons’ run-in with the moral ‘majority’ over Life Of Brian. Despite the fascinating subject, and the telefilm’s impressive impression-performances, its determination to play events as a mythic, postmodern Python comedy work against it.
