Arrested Development Series 3 Review

The final series of the genius off-beat comedy is unfortunately its weakest.

It’s hard to bemoan the axing of one of the best-ever US sitcoms when its final season is its weakest. Despite Arrested Development still standing as the nearest thing you’ll get to a live-action Simpsons, Season 3 sees its biggest misstep: the five-episode ‘Rita’ arc, in which Charlize Theron appears as Michael Bluth’s (Jason Bateman) mentally challenged British girlfriend.

This not only misses its cultural stereotype targets, but also trundles out the hoariest sitcom ‘sit’ of them all: a visit by Japanese businessmen. Enough to make you reluctantly glad that the show was forced to quit while it was still — just — ahead.
