Against all the odds, as its elder sibling Family Guy settles into a rut and even The Simpsons feels some middle-aged spread, American Dad! has actually improved in this second season. Pater familias Stan is still getting into trouble, while geeky Steve finally gets some fun storylines — even if the only intermittently funny Roger The Alien continues to bag the best non-Stan lines.
