It’s testament to the show’s compelling formula that regardless of how many terrorists Jack Bauer kills, audiences still return to see who’s next on his hit list. This time, having dropped off the grid at the end of Season 4, Bauer comes out of hiding after being framed for the murder of former President David Palmer. What follows is a twisting, turning tale that leaves a trail of conspiracy breadcrumbs right up to the White House lawn. Year five sees a truly shocking number of 24 regulars added to the show’s mass grave, but it’s Gregory Itzin who proves the biggest reason to watch, stealing entire episodes as invertebrate president Charles Logan.
