“There’s nothing wrong with being silly,” Terry Jones once dispensed. Yet writer Tony Roche proves him wrong with this account of the Pythons’ run-in with the moral ‘majority’ over Life Of Brian. Despite the fascinating subject, and the telefilm’s impressive impression-performances, its determination to play events as a mythic, postmodern Python comedy work against it.

This was a show that trod the line between plot and fantasy, and did so, for the most part, well. It also produced some of the best characterisations of the year. It's up for a Bafta, anyway. ... More

Thanks for sparing the 40 seconds it must have taken to write this. Actually it was perfect and entirely appropriate for the material, not the lazy "straight version with a new angle" that Mr Jolin perhaps would have found a purer approach. ... More
