Dollhouse: Season 1 (15)
Review Many people gave up on Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse early on, as it seemingly set in for procedural-of-the-week oblivion. That’s a shame, because in its second half the series explodes into life, exploring a world where the link between your body and your personality may not be immutable, and where the control over that link may lie in the hands of other people. The show is predicated on the existence of a future technology that can precisely map, remove and replace the human persona. An individual mind can be saved to disc, wiped completely clean and then replaced by an infinite parade of different personalities — still in the same body — for whatever task is required: whore, lover, criminal, expert... Between sessions, the wiped “Doll” remains a virtual automaton.
It’s a creepy concept that Whedon and company only just begin to explore in these 12 episodes as, for example, it’s implied that one character was made a Doll against her will by a rejected suitor who then repeatedly engages her services to, in essence, rape her. At the centre of all this is Eliza Dushku’s heroine, the well-named Echo, who is experiencing traces of previous imprints coming back to haunt her. It all starts slowly — but then again, so did Buffy, and on the evidence of the latter episodes here, the second season promises to be a belter.

| endure? But why? | | | Joss Whedon is a writer who prides himself on covering new grounds, breaking boundries, and turning previously held conceptions on their heads. In some senses, this muddled TV show highlights these aspirations, but not in a good way.
Yes, Whedon has covered new grounds, but not in a good way. He's proven that even someone with wit, intelligence, and almost endless supplies of imagination can create a mediocre sci-fi show. Yes, he has changed preconceptions: that everything Whedon is gold.

| | | | RE: Dollhouse Season 1 | | In a dose of common sense FOX has cancelled Dollhouse after only four episodes of season 2. I caught all four eps and none of them were any good. The fourth one was about as bad as TV of this ilk can get. Here's hoping Joss can get back to what he does best. Mind you, what that is now is anyone's guess. I'm gonna go with Internet sing alng blogs :) And if you're thinking about buying season one: DON'T!!!!!! ... Read More

| | | | Dollhouse Season 1 | | | Dollhouse is a show you need to be patient with. Many people, myself included, did not like the primire episode and thought the rest of the series may follow this formula. But given a few episodes, Dollhouse begins to win back fans. The main focus can be slightly offputting, girls can be programmed to be anyone the client desires them to be, could raise some eyebrows. But the charators are likeable and the plot is easy to follow. This is a show that needs to be given a chance to show you what it... Read More

| | | | Yawn House | | | After the cleverness of Buffy, the fun of Angel and the brilliance of Firefly/Serenity I expected this to be more of the same. What I got was an appalling TV show that I kept watching in the faint hope that something would remind me why I became a Whedon fan in the first place. Finally I got it in the brilliant 13th episode which, not surprisingly, was unaired. Those FOX guys are clearly tampering here, there's no way Joss and his team are this dull. Watch Dr. Horrible 12 times instead. ... Read More

| | | | Impressive! | | | OK I admit, I started watching Dollhouse on SciFi channel because I want Eliza Dushku's babies. Despite that, one episode and I went off it, too slow for me. However, after numerous positive reviews I bought the season and I am so glad I did. It starts slow but it gets better by the episode. Each character has you interested, bad guys or good guys, and the acting by Eliza and the cast is terrific. Like this review suggest, Season 2 should be a corker. Recommended for those who fancy a chan... Read More

Dollhouse: Season 1
Released: 07 September 2009
The centrepiece is unaired bonus episode Epitaph One, a future-set horror that’s sure to form the basis for future seasons. This post-apocalyptic slasher is set in 2019, where the technology used to wipe and imprint dolls has gone viral and a small team of “Actuals” fight to retain their personalities in a world at war. It‘s chilling and really promising stuff — try catching it before Season 2 starts.
Over half-an-hour of deleted scenes and the unaired pilot also add a few choice details to the mythology, and there are commentaries on a couple of episodes, ‘making of’s and the rest. A good package.
