Review After a muddling opening salvo of Marilyn Manson’s dire cover of Eurythmics’ classic Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) and disposable pop ditty The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang, the score for this underwhelming Gerard Butler actioner plies a mix of industrial rock and heavy synth work that’s stuffed with all the usual clichés of modern action scores yet still manages to sound like it’s been ripped off a sub-par video-game.
Granted, there’s a consistent atmosphere of tension on display (Target Practice, Upgrades), but the lack of themes renders it distinctly unengaging, not aided by some tracks being little more than an aural assault to anyone who doesn’t enjoy techno (Blood Ball). Also, after such an avalanche of electronica, it’s a little strange to have the climax be a medley of show tunes delivered by none other than Sammy Davis Jr..
