Gran Turismo 4
Review After 12 months of delays, there was a real danger that Gran Turismo 4 couldn’t possibly live up to the hype. But as with its high-octane predecessors, GT4 leaves every other driving sim stalled on the starter grid. Expanding on Gran Turismo 3 — one of the PS2’s biggest-selling titles — it features a staggering 700 different cars and 50 tracks from around the world, each modelled in microscopic detail on their real-life counterparts.
As always, the focus of the game is on driving rather than racing, with players having to pass a series of unforgiving tests and earn special licenses before they’re let loose in the game’s best motors, a task that could take months to complete but will become a way of life for dedicated petrol-heads.
Even if motoring leaves you cold, you won’t fail to be impressed by the near-photo-realistic graphics; anyone peering over your shoulder will swear you’re watching a TV show starring the execrable Jeremy Clarkson.
