The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift
 Review
After inspiring a fleet of illicit street racers – including Need For Speed and Midnight Club – The Fast And The Furious franchise finally has a console spin-off to call its own. But in a cruel twist of irony, the movies’ myriad imitators have already left this overdue offshoot for dust.
While the racing challenges are split between one-on-one scrambles through Tokyo’s turbulent traffic and sliding around impossible bends on the outskirts of the city – in turn bringing variety to the brisk action – the twitchy controls make it hard to master your motors at full pelt, and the game’s sluggish illusion of speed can’t touch the pant-soilingly rapid pace of rival racers. Anyone wanting to relive the movies will also be disappointed as the action centres around an anonymous hero, with only the briefest of cameos from the characters that helped make the celluloid series a global hit. Two years ago, Tokyo Drift would have given the pretenders a run for their money; today, it’s not enough to set anyone’s console on fire.
