The Lord Of The Rings: The Battle For Middle-Earth II
Review Having acquired the rights to produce games based on Tolkien’s books and Peter Jackson’s movies, Electronic Arts now has carte blanche to produce as many LOTR games as it pleases. Thankfully, the licence has here been put to excellent use.
Based in the northern regions of Middle-earth, rather than the southern lands featured in the films, this latest bout of real-time strategy reinstates key battles missing from the movies and absent Tolkien favourites like Tom Bombadil. Best of all, the developers have taken criticisms of the previous instalment to heart, introducing character customisation, advanced battle strategies and the ability to build fortresses anywhere on the map, making for a far deeper experience.
