Jason X
Friday the 13th, part fifty squillion shocks everyone by being watchable, witty and well-played.

submit to reddit

Plot
2455 AD, the cryo-frozen Jason is transported off-world by a scientific/military research team. When Jason expert Rowan revives from her own cryo-sleep, she warns that the human killing machine is liable to get loose…

Review
If you do something ten times, you're likely to get it right in the end. Nine years on from the last straight-to-video Friday The 13th sequel, the franchise is here revived by a film that manages to be better than the previous nine entries put together.

Set in a post-Armageddon future where belly-revealing tops are still in fashion, Jason X cleverly sends up the conventions of both the original stalker cycle and the post-Aliens, space-grunts-go-up-against-a-monster movie.

Deprived of his machete for a while, Jason comes up with some inventive new deaths, including real showstoppers like a sink of freezing liquid and a giant drill-bit ("He's screwed!"). The few survivors and many victims - beginning with an apt cameo from David Cronenberg - are comic book characters, but all have neat bits of business, making this a unique F13 in which you actually cheer the good guys. The most surprisingly good film of the year.

Verdict
Wittily scripted, smartly directed and well-played by an unfamiliar cast, this is a real treat for all those who have suffered through the story so far.

Erm..... Jason in space...... Dear good!!!

I know I know this isn't a serious film but seriously who next are they gonna put in space fucking LEATHER FACE! HAHA Imagine that!! "Texas chainsaw massacre Leather face goes to space" Its just a horrible bad and cheesy movie I mean there is a line where this guy said "Its okay he just wants his machete back" That's fucking horrendous in its own right! Lucky to get 2 stars. ... More

empire couldnt be anymore WRONG!

this is no lie, and in all seriousness, i would put this in the top 10 worst horror films i have ever seen, alongside episode 50 and gingerdead man! i couldn't say as much bad things about this film because everything about it is pure silly and dreadful. the characters are terribly acted, the plot is extremely weak and ridiculous and the setting, dont get me started on the location time year and clothes! i honestly do not have one positive thing to say about Jason X, the X probably representing ... More

I completely agree with this review. People don't appreciate Jason X for what it is - a celebration/parody of a series which had become increasingly monotonous. ... More

Pure Shit-Ass

Incredibly BAD!

4 Stars?! What is Empire thinking? I must admit this is the only film of the Friday The 13th series I've seen but it doesn't inspire me to see any of the others. How many deaths can there be in one film, and how dull and unexciting can the director make them?! I am very easily scared and usually love a good slasher film, mostly to take the piss out of it, but this was just drivel. Pure drivel. I want an hour and a half of my life back! NOW! ... More

Jason X

Lets get one thing straight, Kane Hodder was and IS Jason> He doesnt get any lines, wears a mask in the whole thing but some how gives Jason some strange sort of personality. No Im not on drugs. I thought this was ok, a fresh idea (surely ripped off from something John Carpenter once said about sending Michael Myers in to space) Some good kills, brainless bimbos in skimpy underwear, dire acting and direlogue, - everything you'd expect from a tenth Friday the 13th movie. ... More

it was a horror comedy. The guy trying to talk his way out of being killed by Jason was brilliant, isnt that how everyone tuely invisions themselves when being stalked by a serial killer. Im shocked it recieved 4 stars though, really am, I mean i thought i was a minority who found it funny and goodish. ... More

X-cruciating pain

Pure drivel, perhaps the worst film I've ever seen!!! I kept thinking that it couldn't get any worse, how wrong I was! Awful script, acting, plot, etc, etc, it's even let down by the CGI. I already wasn't a fan of the franchiseand I truly despised this film! ... More
