Yves Saint Laurent
La Vie En Clothes

submit to reddit

Plot
Transplanted from a colonial outpost in Algeria to the hubbub and creative bustle of '50s Paris, a young Yves Saint Laurent (Niney) is taken under the wing of established designer Christian Dior. Success soon follows but with it drugs and emotional turmoil.

Review
Yves Saint Laurent

This biopic of the great but fragile designer is stylish, touching and wonderfully acted. Set between 1957 and 1976, the “sublime child” takes the Dior reins at 21 and reinvents fashion amid crises, break-ups, joys and torments. Think La Vie En Rose with couture instead of chansons.

Verdict
As elegant as the man's clothes, this handsome biopic traces 20 incident-filled years in the life of the designer.

It's OK

The first half was mesmerising and very good, with a good balance between narrative and the creative process for YSL.. Second half was lost in a cloud of cocaine, alcohol vapours and orgies with very little of his clothes. ... More
