In the rural village of Gladsbury, an angel visits the candlemaker every 25 years and bestows miraculous powers on the Christmas Candle. But when grieving clergyman David Richmond (Matheson) arrives, the candle mysteriously goes missing.
Had this story of a vicar rediscovering his faith in miracles been made decades ago in monochrome, it might now be a festive favourite. But its cornball Christian contrivances seem merely melodramatic in our cynical times. Maybe that’s the point.
Indigestible Christmas stodge.
