Plot
Down-on-his-luck Welsh mobile salesman Paul Potts (Corden) is struggling to translate his passion for opera into more than a hobby. Then a certain TV show, Britain's Got Talent, changes everything.

Review
One Chance

The story of the rise to fame of Paul Potts, the inaugural winner of Britain’s Got Talent, is a gentle if perfunctory, episodic affair, following Potts from his early years as the strange, opera-obsessed kid who got bullied to his triumph in the contest in 2007. Directed by The Devil Wears Prada’s David Frankel, the comedy feels clunky and a little shopworn, but James Corden gives a warm, empathic performance as the accident-prone warbler, the supporting cast of Brit stalwarts are game if hardly stretched, and there’s a bleak beauty to Florian Ballhaus’ shots of the Welsh industrial landscape Potts calls home.

Verdict
A fluffy but fun telling of a rags to riches story.

One Chance

A nice enough bit of fluff. It's a story that's been told plenty of times in the medi, and if it had been maybe half an hour shorter it could have been a good ITV1 one off special, but otherwise it's harmless enough. ... More
