Plot
A snail (Reynolds) dreams of competing in the Indy 500 race. He comes closer to his dream when an accident leaves him with super-speed.

Critters with dreams are big business these days. We’ve had a panda who can fight and a rat that can cook: now along comes this clunky DreamWorks cartoon about a snail who yearns for colossal velocity. Voiced by Ryan Reynolds, hero-in-a-whole-shell Turbo makes a pretty bland hero as he befriends a gang of hip-hop-loving molluscs and prepares for the Indy 500. On the plus side, the animation is often stunning, Bill Hader’s a fun French (naturellement) baddie, and you do get to see Paul Giamatti, in gastropod form, ride around on a big crow.


Verdict
If you want to see Paul Giamatti as a snail - and who doesn't - you've come to the right place. If you don't, wait for Cloudy 2.

The new Dreamworks animated film has a very cool concept: the snail Turbo is totally hooked on auto racing and his big dream is to one day take part in the Indy 500. He does everything in his power to make that wish come true. Thanks to a stupid coincidence it looks likes this is going to happen! As apparently is the rule these days, Turbo is a real American animations flick: moralistic and super predictable. But that doesn`t make it any less enjoyable. With lots of humor and a great voice cast... More

Come for Reynolds; stay for Jackson.

The animation is great, and the 3D does the job rather nicely, but the mechanics of the story itself are strictly b-list, taking the archetypal underdog story but not adding any zing of its own. It's shiny, it's funny, and it has a lot of heart, but in the race for glory, Turbo is an also-ran. ... More
