Top Cat
More like cat-astrophe

Plot
The big-screen adaptation of the old cartoon sees Top Cat and friends trying to defend their alley against the efforts of a new police chief.

Review
Top Cat
It's something of a novelty to see an aged cartoon turned into
a movie that’s traditionally animated, as opposed to updated to a sarcastic wad of CG alongside some live-action jobbing actor taking the cheque. But Top Cat is so lazily conceived, it makes you long for Garfield.

The animation is ‘Saturday morning’ quality, which is forgivable. A script that takes about 20 minutes’ worth of story and stretches it to 90 is not, not least when it’s such a creaking plot (a bad man comes to town to curb Top Cat’s schemes) and the gags are all caked in dust. And there’s no attempt to include any humour that will play to original fans. This Top Cat belongs in the trash.

Verdict
If you're feeling nostalgic, dig out some copies of the original cartoon instead.

Spend your money on the original...

As a film fan I like to watch and personally review as much and as wide a range of films as I can. Hence I put myself (and tolerated) through Top Cat. First of all I'd like to say that I loved the original, even though were only about 30 episodes, they were brilliant with some great gags that could even make an adult giggle a little. Now imagine an extremely boring, pointless and tedious 20 minute episode stretched out to 90 minutes. It was horrific to say the least! There isn't any positives wh... More
