Chico & Rita
An animated love story set in Cuba

Plot
Young pianist Chico (Xor Oña) and beautiful singer Rita (Meneses) fall in love over a shared passion of the the Latin ballad, embarking on a journey that brings happiness and heartache.

Review
Chico & Rita
If this story has a moral, it’s that people are stupid, never realising what they have until it’s gone. The on-off pairing of Cuban composer Chico (Eman Xor Oña), and singer Rita (Limara Meneses) was made in heaven, but the star-cross’d two are set on driving each other away. It’s an old story, well suited to a Cuban soundtrack: all crooning love songs, fiery dances and passionate farewells. The animation, too, is noteworthy, combining a classical hand-inked style with CG flair in the action scenes as it tours Cuban history, making even a car trip look like an action extravaganza (though the way this lot drive, it is anyway). One for the hopeless romantics out there, but also for fans of animated naughty bits.

Verdict
A delightful blend of hand-drawn animation and CG style that'll be soul food for hopeless romantics everywhere.
