Stepfather
A series of horror-movie clichés

submit to reddit

Plot
David Walsh appears to be set on becoming the new loving husband to Susan and Stepfather to her children. However, her son has his doubts.

Review
Stepfather
Nip/tuck good guy Dylan Walsh takes a trip to the dark side in this literally bloodless remake of Joseph Ruben’s 1987 thriller. Despite his “Without family you’ve got nothing” mantra, Walsh’s David Harris seems intent on becoming part of Susan Harding’s (Sela Ward) family only to destroy it, a plotline given little context. We’re served a series of horror-movie clichés, all painfully muted for an (ironically) family-friendly rating. If the story had kept itself half as busy as the violinists, you may have excused the plot-holes. Instead, this is a dull plod offering very few thrills beyond the endless shots of Amber Heard, as would-be stepson Michael’s (Penn Badgley) girlfriend, in her tiny-whiteys.

Verdict
Cliché-ridden and full of plot-holes.

"Without family you've got nothing."

It starts off with promise, but The Stepfather quickly falls into the same dusty clichés as most modern thrillers... and Amber Heard, as the lazy girlfriend, spends half the movie in a skimpy bathing suit (which, surprisingly, isn't a complement). ... More

A Terrible Thriller.

When you look at the front cover of The Stepfather, you feel the fear and can't wait to see it unfold before your eyes. Instead of being frightened or on the edge of your seat, the film is a complte mess. Plot holes, a over the top story and a really bad ending is a few things to put down on this review. I hardly believed in any of characters, I didn't feel anything for them and their pefomances were stiff. Since it was a 15, there was no blood or real threat at all. Don't waste your time, it's ... More
