Set against a sunblushed ’60s backdrop of Italian small-town political squabbling, Luchetti’s playful drama centres on two warring brothers.
Manrico (Scamarcio), the older sibling, is dark, brooding and increasingly passionate in his leftist convictions, while Accio (Germano) is the family hothead with Fascist party leanings.
Happily, Luchetti avoids getting bogged down in stony political rhetoric by peppering the scenes of fist-in-the-air rallying with light comic moments and coming-of-age charm.
With captivating performances from the two leads, this is well worth seeking out.
