The Pink Panther 2 (PG)

The Pink Panther 2
Plot
When a priceless trove of artefacts are stolen around the globe, Inspector Clouseau (Martin) is placed in charge of tracking down the culprits and returning the treasures.

Review
The first one made a profit — just — so here comes the least-anticipated sequel of 2009. This time, Steve Martin’s Inspector Clouseau is on the hunt for a thief who’s nabbed the world’s top artefacts. Like the first movie, it comes off like a lame version of The Naked Gun, with a smarmy hero, slow gag rate and poor choreography — one set-piece, involving a bank of CCTV monitors, is funny in theory but misfires on screen. Perhaps Martin should surround himself with funny people, rather than serious thesp co-stars Andy Garcia, Alfred Molina and Jean Reno, not to mention dull director Harald Zwart.

Verdict
A mirthless shot in the dark that misses the target by some distance.

Watchable Trailer Trash

OK Its nowhere near as funny as the old ones but its not half as bad as some critics made it out to be and its much better than the shite that was Son of the Pink Panther ... Read More

This was BAD. Never have I seen such a quality cast squandered on such shit.Steve Martin, Alfred Molina, JOHN CLEESE! Nearly all the jokes were lame and predictable. And Clousou (sic) was a Racist! Hving him call a japanese person his "yellow friend" is probably the most misplaced joke I've ever seen in a childrens movie! Clousou is mainy things: a bumbiling idiot, a clueless detective and occsionally a pompous ass with a big ego, but he is not a narrow minded racist! ... Read More

L: GreatScott!!! I have to say that, having seen the trailer, I feel sorry for the reviewer who had to sit through this godawful mess. Steve Martin's likeable enough, but if we're honest was there EVER a time when he was genuinely funny? Seriously. is films again. If there's a goodun without forced laughs let me knowuote]   So I take it you haven't seen The Man With Two Brains. It's brilliant! ... Read More

Given that so many of the films are barely watchable, it's incredible that we're talking about an 11 film franchise spanning nearly 50 years. I bit the bullet on Saturday, and have hardly never seen a movie with so many good comic set pieces utterly ruined. Far too much bombastic music and absolutely no understanding of slow incramental escalation of comic pace. What disapointment, what failure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read More

Could be a mastepiece
Empire User Rating

This is such a perfectly bad film that if the makers set out to create the worst film they could imagine then they are all genius. The film at times often feels like that was their goal. I couldn't see how anyone could make a film this bad otherwise. 5 or 1 star depending. ... Read More

I couldn't care less what the critics think, sure it's not big or clever... but I can disengage and have a giggle at the sheer stupidity on display..... Martin isn't exactly amazing but he does it with admirable gusto, whilst Cleese etc are amiable too... Nothing special, but a amusing guilty pleasure, so sue me! 3/5 ... Read More
