Caddyshack
Classic 80s golfing comedy - with gophers!

Plot
A millionaire tries to turn a golf course into a property development, in the teeth of opposition from staff, members and some really determined gophers.

Review
Flimsy of plot, filthy of mind and clearly made by people a large percentage of whom spent more time snorting lines than learning them, Harold Ramis' debut movie nevertheless remains a classic - not just the funniest fairway-set comedy of all time, but a peerless platform for the likes of Bill Murray and gag machine Rodney Dangerfield to monkey around as only they know how.

The nominal leads of the film - the young, handsome but downtrodden caddies - barely get a look in amid 'supporting' characters this accomplished, but that's probably a good thing. Better yet, the film's real star - a foot high John Dykstra-created disco-dancing gopher - looks even more amusingly rubbish in this format than usual.

None.

Verdict
It's not big and it's not clever, but it's very, very funny.

You Want to Make $14, The Hard Way?!

This is the very definition of a 5-star comedy. I would wager that it's the most quoted movie of all time with epic performances from Dangerfield, Murray and Chase. They don't get much better than this, folks. ... More

This has a plot? I think not...

Despite requiring less brainpower to watch than professional wrestling this is a really enjoyable film that keeps the laughs coming, especially when Rodney Dangerfield is on-screen. Loses a star for the lame 'main' character and his girlfriend's awful (and utterly pointless) Oirish accent along with some serious inconsistencies in Chevy Chase's character. One minute he's Mr Smooth, the next he's a bumbling idiot, it just doesn't work. That said the scene where he plays golf through Bill Murray'... More

RE: Classic

The scenes with Dangerfield and Murray work a lot better than the Chase ones, to be honest Chase doesn't come across as the cool character he is obviously supposed to be, more like a twat, but this is kind of a classic just for Rodney and Bill's scenes, although it does run out of steam a bit towards the end, it doesn't help that the young caddying 'hero' is more than a bit of a non-entity, but still, this is one of the better early 80s American comedy films. ... More

RE: Classic

Absolutely.  Chevy Chase is an absolute legend, almost as good as in Fletch, but not quite.  Not so keen on the Gopher itself but Murray is amazing.  The Mars Bar in the swimming pool scene is possibly the greatest example of toilet humour ever.   Hilarious. ... More

Classic

"Hey Wang, whats with the pictures? Its a parking lot, come on will ya!" I love this film, Rodney Dangerfield steals the show, every scene he's in is absolute class. "I think this place is restricted Wang, so don't tell 'em you're Jewish.......Hey I'am Al Czervik, this is my guest, Mr Wang, no offence!".....Sod it, I'll just go watch the film, essential viewing! ... More
