Manhunter
Michael Mann's adaptation of the first Lecter novel.

Plot
An FBI agent with the ability to think like a killer tracks down a serial murderer.

Review
Shot in minimalist hues of blues and blacks, the screen is filled with director Michael Mann's taste for architectural beauty.

Will Graham (William Peterson) focuses his search for loony The Tooth Fairy with doubled-edged advice from Brian Cox's creepy spin on Hannibal Lecter.

Joan Allen, Tom Noonan and Dennis Farina contribute to the class in a truly underrated chiller.

Extras

Manhunter Manhunter
Released: 28 June 1999
Adequate notes fill in some background, but nought else.

Verdict
A slick and glossy thriller that still stands out.

Manhunter

Stylish, scary, smart. Mann's take on Red Dragon is very 80s but still translates well and is still scary. The villain is still scary and terrifying nearly 25 years later. ... More

A masterpiece unlike the over rated SOTL. Brian Cox is brilliant unlike the panto performance by Hopkins. But please could some1 talk MANN into editing that appalingly dated song off the end it is so unlike the rest of the film. This could possibly enter my top 10 american films of the 80s. ... More

Fuck Hopkins grandstanding! Brian Cox makes Lecktor far more interesting, creepy, intelligent and plain evil that any of Hopkins panto villain schtick. The whole film pisses on Silence, which looks like a TV movie by comparison. William Petersen is magnetic, Dennis Farina is in fine powerhouse mode and Tom Noonan is just inspired casting. Even the synth soundtrack is perfect, plus it's got In A Gadda Da Vida for the climax! What more can mere mortals ask for? Further proof that Mann is a genius ... More
