Faust Released: 28 August 2006 Disc One contains a restored print taken from the ‘domestic’ negative, lost for 50 years, with different takes, tighter editing, richer compositions and — crucially – sharper contrast than the ‘export’ version (on Disc Two). The fire-and-brimstone orchestral score (on both versions) is preferable to the gentle harp accompaniment (Disc One only). The commentary and a featurette comparing versions are a touch pedantic, but critic Tony Rayns’ 40-minute interview provides a detailed context
