Though the title suggests a duller, more mainstream book, this is a great read with much intellectual meat worth chewing over. Kaveney focuses on sci-fi cinema from the late 1970s until now, and is among the first critics to write in depth about several high-profile movies, extending from the theatrical cuts to deleted scenes on DVD releases. She discusses Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers, for instance, in detailed comparison with Robert Heinlein’s novel.
