A blowjob for the imagination, this is the most thoughtful ‘Art Of’ book to appear in a long time. Laced with feverish eye candy, del Toro’s original screenplay is so well annotated with concept art and beautifully rendered storyboards that the script is practically redundant.
While the hardcore will pore over pages devoted to top creature Sammael, the newbies are brought up to speed by nifty comic strip backstories of the characters. Crammed with so much attention to detail, the book, like the film, is a real labour of love.
