Dodgy cover shot aside, this exhaustive trawl through the career of the coolest man in movies is a coffee-table-sized slice of brilliance. Eschewing a normal biographical approach for a film-by-film breakdown, Anton Antoniades and Mike Siegel have done a remarkable job of plundering the McQueen archives for unseen publicity stills, all kinds of alternative posters and the sort of facts — McQueen practised polo so much for The Thomas Crown Affair that his hands bled — that can only come from deep immersion. Magnificent.
