The steep price here (£135) is offset by magnificent production values, fascinating text, an exquisite array of visual treats and direct involvement by Almodóvar himself.

The director’s 18 features are explored by various critics, but the real gold is Almodóvar’s own commentary, via the ‘self-interviews’ that provide a penetrating perspective on a unique and bold talent. For fans and cineastes, a hugely worthwhile treat.
