Shrek

Plot When Shrek, an antisocial ogre with self-esteem issues, finds his private swamp overrun with refugee fairy tale characters, who are escaping from evil Farquaad’s efforts to clean up his kingdom, he takes his beef to the midget despot himself. However, in return for the turfing out of his weirdo squatters, Shrek finds himself roped into the rescue of a cute princess from a dragon-guarded castle. Verdict This is the first CGI gig to seriously challenge Toy Story’s autonomy, beautifully written, gloriously animated and tastily subversive. While the plot-line itself can’t quite outrun convention, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a funnier 90 minutes, no matter how real the flesh tones.
