Plot
The Shadow of the now dead Rebecca, first mistress of Manderley, hangs over the inhabitants of the great house, driving the new, young wife close to madness.

Verdict
Perhaps without the shock and suspense of subsequent work, this is nevertheless another undoubted masterpiece from the atmospheric film maker, and just as essential.
