Red Desert Antonioni's 1964 modern-life-is-rubbish treatise

Plot Giuliana (Vitti) is the unhappy wife of Ugo (Chionetti) and suffers from an unnamed form of depression. Her erratic emotional shifts disturb everyone around her, but no-one engages directly with the problem. When British engineer Corrado Zeller (Harris) arrives, he seems to understand what Giuliana is really after in life, and he begins an affair with the troubled woman. Verdict A stunningly beautiful and evocative use of colour and setting.
