Vincere Pass Il Duce on the left-hand side

Plot Italy, 1907. Beauty shop worker Ida Dalser (Mezzogiorno) falls for union activist Benito Mussolini (Timi). The couple marry but, as Mussolini switches his political tack from socialism to fascism, Ida learns that her husband has re-married and started a campaign to deny her very existence. Verdict An occasionally exhilarating retelling of a fascinating, little-known story. And how Mezzogiorno missed awards consideration is a mystery.
