Brighton, 1964. Petty gangster Pinkie Brown (Riley) is snapped with the turncoat he's about to viciously murder. When the photographic evidence falls into the lap of naive young waitress Rose (Riseborough), Pinkie tracks her down and starts an affair as fateful as his attempts to clamber the town's criminal hierarchy.
Greene fans will raise a sceptical eyebrow, but it's an adaptation brimming with enough ideas to justify this second stick of Rock.
