Heathcliff (Glave) is an orphan on the streets, brought into the Earnshaw family. He bonds with Cathy (Beer), beginning an obsessive friendship. But as Heathcliff is abused by Cathy’s brother Hindley (Lee Shaw), a wedge is driven between them. Years later, the adult Heathcliff (Howson) returns to claim Cathy (Scodelario).
An astonishing-looking adaptation that captures the setting of the book, and its darkness, wonderfully, but goes too far towards edgy in its quest to avoid the usual literary clichés.
