In this Prohibition-era musical, two childhood friends’ lives centre on a hedonistic club. Boisterous Rooster (Patton) is fighting to hold on to the business he’s inherited from its murdered owner, while the club’s shy piano player (Benjamin) starts a tentative romance with a big singing star in the small town of Idlewild.
Anyone unfamiliar with or underwhelmed by the music of OutKast will find little in this thin piece of cinematic storytelling. Fans happy to luxuriate in its artistic indulgence, however, will be swept up in the weird, random, fantastic OutKastness of it all.
