Stagecoach 'The Duke'' in typically heroic mood

Plot A simple stagecoach trip is complicated by the fact that Geronimo is on the warpath in the area. The passengers on the coach include a drunken doctor, a pregnant woman, a bank manager who has taken off with his client's money, and the famous Ringo Kid, among others. Verdict What drew the crowds back in 1939 — and what has kept them coming — is not the film's simmering subtexts but the absolutely fantastic ambush sequence as the stage thunders across the salt flats of Monument Valley. With this, Ford transformed the western from fading B-movie filler into genuine adult fare.
