The King of Comedy Scorsese's media satire sometimes seems like Taxi Driver played for laughs.

Plot Rupert (De Niro) is determined to become a famous comic genius and takes to stalking his favourite talk show host (Lewis) to get a spot on TV. After being given the run-around, Rupert decides to take matters into his own hands with the help of crazed friend Masha (Bernhard). Verdict Scorses's skill as a scene-maker are fully evident and Lewis' quietly rageful performance offers to out-do De Niro in intensity, but neither funny enough to be an effective black comedy nor scary enough to capitalise on its thriller/horror elements, The King Of Comedy sits awkwardly between the two.
