Plot Small-town restaurant owner Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) becomes a local hero when he shoots and kills two hoodlums. But soon after Carl Fogaty (Ed Harris) arrives in town convinced that Tom is a violent gangster with debts to pay back in Philly. Meanwhile the violence begins to engulf the family.
Verdict Cronenberg’s best for a long time, broad and entertaining enough for those unacquainted with the director’s work, but layered with the themes of infection and mutation that have defined his work.
